About The Show

SYNOPSIS
Andy, a bundle of anxiety, had always assumed he was straight, but after moving in with his lesbian sister, Gwen, his emotional opposite, and being exposed to her eclectic group of queer friends, a night of same-sex flirting propels him on a comic exploration of his sexual identity.

Each episode, we follow Andy as he navigates the eclectic expectations and often comic stereotypes of the Portland queer scene while he works to define his sexual identity. Equally, we follow Gwen as she struggles with her brother's resistance to labels; after all, she had to do the hard work of "coming out" to their family. Both characters represent competing worldviews within the LGBTQ community and we want to show that conversation.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
Rarely do you see an explicitly gay show that is also a broad comedy. Not a dramedy. Not a dark comedy. An actual comedy about situations that queer people experience -- a queer sitcom. When the only queer characters that people see are flamboyant stereotypes or entangled in miserable situations, it reduces the likelihood that people will identify with them.

Our interest in this project really gathered speed once we realized we wanted to tell a comic story, and as we were told that story we became more and more aware that we were scripting a romantic comedy. Hooks' clear background and time spent living in Portland directly informed the initial idea, as well as many of the choices we made along the way. Colton also felt strongly about writing a story that explored the modern concept of masculinity.
